AllerGuard is a series of advanced and high-tech bedding for use by house dust mite allergy sufferers marketed in Europe, the Middle East and Asia.
We do not market AllerGuard as a cheap dish, but only through our own webshop or local retailers, so we ensure that our customers can always get the best advice on protection against house dust mite allergy.
We have therefore chosen to declare AllerGuard as a medical aid in the EU to ensure our users only get the best of the best, as the requirements for the product and the uniform quality must be documented and all possible failures during use or the product must be reported to the issuing authority, which is the British Medicines Agency (MHRA).
Why AllerGuard?
It was not until 1964 that it became clear that house dust mites are the main reason why house dust mites can trigger allergic symptoms, and although the house dust mites' way of life has now been well described for a number of years, they seem to pose a growing problem and recent studies indicate that up to 15% of the population has house dust mite allergy.
AllerGuard has a completely unique textile shape, which is an effective barrier against dust mites, pollutants and allergens. The fabric is made of millions of microfibers many times thinner than a human hair, which is woven so tightly that nothing with a diameter of more than 0.1 microns (μm = my = 1/1000,000 meters) is able to penetrate.
The extremely dense weave and the special arrangement of fibers guarantee high density against microparticles but allow the transport of air and moisture, which is why AllerGuard products are also very comfortable to use. It is not boastful when it is called silky.

For more than 50 years, AllerGuard has proven its effectiveness as the best protection against the dust mite allergens that are in the mattress.
And house dust mites are so widespread in our homes, especially in our bed environments, that there is no need to test if you have them. Because you have!
The faeces of house dust mites contain enzymes that can contribute to triggering asthma, eczema and allergic reactions in the people who are predisposed. These reactions are very unpleasant, and contribute to a significantly poorer quality of life with poor or interrupted sleep, breathing problems, eczema, hay fever reactions such as itching in the nose or throat and asthma.
AllerGuard allergen-proof, breathable mattress, duvet and pillow cover effectively stops dust mites and does not allow allergens to penetrate.
Protection after washing
Laboratory tests at ALK show that AllerGuard® maintains 98.2% density against microparticles with a diameter of 0.1 μm even after 50 washes, and for particles with a diameter of 0.4 μm, the density is as high as 99.6%.
Why AllerGuard?
Microparticles that are harmful to us, including mite excrement, bacteria and some viruses, are no larger than 0.1μm
The dust mites themselves are 10 to 400 times larger than the pores in the fabric, so they cannot penetrate the fabric from inside a mattress, an AllerGuard duvet or pillow.
Protection after washing
AllerGuard's microfibre weave gives us a comparative pore size of 0.2 μm — although strictly speaking, "pore size" isn't quite the right term for microfibre.
Laboratory tests at ALK-Abelló show that AllerGuard maintains 98.6% impermeability against microparticles with a diameter of 0.2 μm, even after 50 washes.
Microfibre fabric uses different "pore sizes" to cotton or compressed polyester threads, for example. Individual filament sizes are measured in denier rather than millimetres.
AllerGuard's filaments (threads) are 1.04 denier. (See also fig. 7 and 9)

How?
The secret behind AllerGuard microfiber lies in the production, which is done using AllerGuard microfiber. The Sharp Edge process. The process of producing microfiber fabrics begins by melting polyester and polyamide balls.
The liquid polyester and polyamide tubs are pushed (extruded) simultaneously through tools, each containing 72 pie-shaped segments. (Fig 1)
Each circle shape contains segments of polyester and eight segments of polyamide, with trace amounts of oil separating the two polymers so that they do not mix.
In the next step, the polyester used to form the Polyamide is removed by an alkaline solution. (Fig 2)

The cleavage process is then carried out, in which the polyester is corroded in a controlled chemical process that splits the microfibres to create hollow openings in the fibre and wraps the fibres to give the fabric strength and integrity. As a result, the fabric contains fibres down to 0.2 denier per filament, while retaining most of the throughput and processing benefits of a 3 denier fibre.
(Fig 5) The wedges consist of 20% nylon and 80% polyester.
(Fig 6) At the end of the process, the split filament is obtained (16 split segments per pie tin, 72 pie tins per filament per inch2 of fabric).
Non-split filaments work similarly to regular synthetic yarns, and these fibers are usually used for cleaning cloths and towels.
The split filament used in AllerGuard to weave the microfibre fabric has improved moisture absorbing properties due to the capillary effect.
The filaments are intertwined into a yarn and then woven into a microfibre fabric (Fig 7)
Our microfiber products have properties and characteristics (e.g., greater absorbency, durability, and efficacy) that make them more desirable than conventional cotton products. Many of these attractive properties stem from the larger surface area of the fabric, which is the result of the cleavage process.
Technically, microfibers are not absorbent because the fibers do not absorb water in the same way that cotton fibers do. Instead, they simply trap water into the cavity between the thousands of fibers. Microfiber absorbs liquids using the capillary effect, a phenomenon in which fluid flows in the opposite direction of gravity through channels in the fabric.
The thousands of fibers surround and lock the water molecules, thus preventing them from escaping. This gives microfibers the ability to soak up to eight times their weight in water (sweat).
In addition, since the microfibers do not absorb water, dry much more easily, because water is simply pushed out of the caves where it is held, instead of having to dry in the usual way. This is also the reason why elite athletes only wear microfiber clothing.
The filaments in AllerGuard are so fine that a fiber made of these filaments, stretching from London to Hong Kong, would weigh only 350 grams.
(Fig 8) shows a cross-section of the woven AllerGuard material, and clarifies the coverage achieved by twisting and aligning the filaments during the fabric's finishing.
The fibres spread efficiently over the weave connection – a critical point for particle passage in ordinary textiles.
At the same time, the overall fabric surface is leveled, which significantly reduces the surface indentations, which are weak points for surface contamination in ordinary textiles.
(Fig 9) The tightly woven fabric of these fine fibers blocks mites or dust from passing through the fabric.
That's why AllerGuard is effective at preventing you from coming into contact withmites and allergenic dust by simply covering the bedding you already have.
Moisture permeability
(Fig 10) AllerGuard's moisture permeability is extremely high due to the special capillary effect created by the triangular filaments. It is even taller than cotton fabric, as shown below. As a user, you will notice it by the fact that the fabric dries much faster than cotton.

It has been mentioned in the press that there is doubt as to whether the use of allergen-proof covers is beneficial for house dust mite allergy sufferers. Unfortunately, the publicity has meant that some families have doubted the beneficial effect, and have thus not been helped sufficiently. The reason is that some individuals with a political goal other than helping have sown the doubt, and use non-prospective, double-blind, and placebo-controlled studies as a basis.
One of the best and most serious studies on the subject can be seen in the study: Study of the effect of allergen-proof covers.
It is shown that the use of medication for asthma treatment based on house dust mite allergy could be reduced by approx. 50% by using allergen-proof mattress covers.
Using AllerGuard
