The story of Allerguard
AllerGuard – over 50 years of development, innovation and documented allergy protection.
The beginning in the 1960s
AllerGuard has been manufacturing allergen-proof textiles since the 1960s, when the ability of house dust mites to cause allergies in humans was first recognised.
Development of microfibre technology
Two engineers in the textile industry in Singapore joined forces and, together with a local weaving mill, developed one of the first microfibre fabrics with such a uniform and unique weave that it was able to retain particles as small as 0.1 µm (1 µm = 1/1,000,000 metre).
Combined with its thin, silky feel and its ability to absorb and release moisture, microfibre also became widely used in sportswear, particularly for athletes who did not want to compete in cotton clothing that became heavy and retained moisture. The first Nike microfibre running shirts were made from AllerGuard fabric.
Did you know?
AllerGuard's microfibre fabric can retain particles as small as 0.1 µm – equivalent to 1/10,000,000 metre.
The first allergen-proof products
AllerGuard was first sold as allergen-proof bedding in Japan and Singapore, where the first research studies into its effectiveness were also carried out.
The results were so positive that AllerGuard was already widely used around the world by the mid-1970s.
Before then, allergy protection mainly consisted of heavy, coated or PVC-impermeable textiles, which contributed significantly to giving allergen protection a poor reputation because of their lack of comfort, short lifespan, odour and noise.
Relocation of production and new partnerships
In 1980, we became a distributor, and in 2006 we acquired AllerGuard.
At the same time, we expanded our collaboration with our factory in Poland, which, in addition to its professional sewing facilities, could provide the thoroughly tested down quality required for our pillows and duvets. This is supported by our collaboration with our down laboratory, which helps ensure the required quality.
These developments have continued to improve AllerGuard, helping it remain one of the most sought-after forms of allergen-proof protection in many parts of the world.
Continued innovation and documented protection
Manufacturing such an advanced product requires considerable technical expertise. AllerGuard is therefore not sold as a discount product, but as one of the market's most effective forms of protection against house dust mite allergy.
Customers can be confident that the product will continue to perform as intended for at least 10 years and after more than 50 washes.
Unfortunately, this level of documented performance is not standard across the industry, where poorly documented and ineffective products are still sold.
AllerGuard today
The engineering and trading company MvG Consult ApS owns AllerGuard, which is sold in many parts of the world through local distributors and our own online sales channels.
AllerGuard's sole aim is to help people who suffer from house dust mite allergy by producing and selling allergen-proof bedding of the highest quality at an affordable price.
MvG Consult ApS also provides engineering and consultancy services relating to indoor climate, house dust mites, mould and allergies for building owners, municipalities, doctors and private individuals.
Together with the OBH Group's Environment and Indoor Climate Department, we offer DNA analyses for mould in buildings.
